PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team snapped a 14-match losing streak to East Avenue rival Nazareth on Tuesday evening, sweeping the Golden Flyers in doubles and singles for a 7-0 victory.
The Cardinals improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in Empire 8 Conference West Division play with the victory, which marked their fourth in a row. Fisher hadn't beaten Nazareth since April 17, 2019.
Senior Will Chubb and junior Tyler Hernandez earned a 6-3 win over Pierre Ntonga and Noah Britton in first doubles. Freshman Finn Whitaker and senior Sean Brown edged Matthew Herb and David Tuller 7-6 (7-2 tiebreaker) in second doubles, while sophomore Charlie Roberts and freshman Matthew Lincoln won 6-1 over Nathan Bigelow and Hudson Nadasdi in third doubles.
Hernandez, Lincoln, Brown, Roberts and freshman Sebastian Dix won their singles matches in straight sets. Chubb outlasted Britton in three frames in second singles.
