HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team completed a regular-season sweep of Houghton on Saturday with a 7-0 road victory, pushing its winning streak to a program-record six matches.
The Cardinals improved to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8 Conference's West Division, in which they currently hold first place. This marks the first time that Fisher has beaten Houghton twice in a season.
Junior Tyler Hernandez and senior Will Chubb improved to 7-2 in first doubles with a 6-1 win over Rune Camps and Eben Schilke. Freshmen Sebastian Dix and Matthew Lincoln secured the doubles point for the Cardinals with a 6-3 victory over Benjamin Unger and Caleb Hilsher in third doubles.
The Cardinals claimed all six singles matches, with Hernandez, Lincoln, Dix and sophomore Charlie Roberts winning in straight sets. Chubb won his match by retirement over Preston Tobolski, while freshman Marshall Harrishburg outlasted his opponent, Jason Murphy, in a three-set bout.
