OSWEGO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team edged SUNY Oswego 4-3 on Wednesday evening to extend its winning streak to seven matches.
The Cardinals improved to 8-3 overall (6-0 Empire 8 Conference West Division) and completed the regular-season sweep of the Lakers with the victory. Oswego dropped to 2-5 overall (2-3 Empire 8 Conference West Division).
Fisher swept Oswego in doubles and claimed three of six singles matches.
Junior Tyler Hernandez and sophomore Charlie Roberts, in their first match as partners, topped Colin Byer and Tyler Yuhn in first doubles. Senior Sean Brown and Finn Whitaker beat Cole Lyons and Miguel Garcia 6-2 in second doubles, and freshmen Matthew Lincoln and Sebastian Dix took down Cole Fleming and Zach Triantafillou.
Hernandez (first singles) and Dix (third singles) both improved ot 8-3 and won their sixth consecutive singles matches. Hernandez beat Lyons in straight sets, while Dix won his match in three sets over Garcia. In his first singles match of the season, junior Trentyn Grant (sixth singles) prevailed in three sets over Fleming.
