How It Happened
Fisher wasted no time jumping ahead in the first inning. After Griffin worked a walk and Brendan Bucello was hit by a pitch, Perry laced a two-run double to put the Cardinals on the board. Sleurs followed with an RBI single to cap a three-run frame and give Fisher a 3-0 lead.
Maritime answered with single runs in the second and third innings, but the Cardinals responded with a decisive seven-run outburst in the bottom of the second. Frey tripled to open the inning and scored on an RBI single from Mario Cubello, who later stole two bases. Perry added an RBI single before Penafeather roped a two-run double and Pohrte followed with a two-run double of his own to stretch the lead to 10-1.
After Maritime plated another run in the third, Fisher added to its advantage in the bottom half. Shortino delivered an RBI single to make it 11-2.
The Privateers rallied for three runs in the fifth and added single tallies in the sixth and ninth, trimming the deficit to 11-6. Fisher, however, put the game out of reach in the eighth inning. Penafeather doubled and later scored, Cubello drew a bases-loaded walk, and Griffin reached on an error that allowed two more runs to cross. A passed ball brought home another run as the Cardinals extended the lead to 14-6.
Weber struck out two in the ninth to halt Maritime's final push and seal the 14-8 win.
