PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Four St. John Fisher University student-athletes have earned weekly honors for their performances last week, the Empire 8 Conference and the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) announced Monday.
Natalie Mai (Freshman, Women's Basketball) – Empire 8 Rookie of the Week
Mai shot 10-of-21 (48%) from the field, including 5-of-11 (45%) from 3-point range, while scoring 25 total points as the St. John Fisher women's basketball team beat Elmira and Keuka over the weekend. She scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting (3-of-6 from three) against Keuka and 10 on 4-of-9 shooting (2-of-5 from three) against Elmira.
This marks the third time this season that Mai has garnered E8 Rookie of the Week honors.
Sebastian Woods (Senior, Men's Ice Hockey) – Empire 8 Co-Goaltender of the Week/UCHC Goaltender of the Week
Woods made 86 saves and allowed just one goal to lead the St. John Fisher men's ice hockey team to a sweep of Manhattanville over the weekend. The senior turned aside 50 shots in a 3-0 shutout on Friday, the second-most saves by a UCHC goaltender in a game this season.
This marks the first time that Woods has earned UCHC weekly honors and the second time he's garnered E8 weekly accolades.
Scott Bovard (Junior, Men's Lacrosse) – Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week
A first-time E8 weekly honoree, Bovard had five total points on three goals and two assists in a 23-7 season-opening victory over SUNY Oneonta on Saturday at the Pinnacle Athletic Campus and Events Center in Victor. His three goals and five points both marked career highs.
Paul Lichter (Jr., Wrestling) – Empire 8 Wrestler of the Week
Lichter recorded a late three-point takedown for a resilient 8-6 win by decision over Tyler Rossini, ranked ninth in Division III and second in the region at 157 pounds, in the St. John Fisher wrestling team's 35-7 dual victory over Brockport on Friday night at the Manning & Napier Varsity Gym.
Lichter has earned E8 weekly honors three times since last January, including twice in the last month.
