BOSTON, Mass. – Senior thrower Brandon Kaplan and junior pole vaulter Hayden Penna had the top performances for the St. John Fisher men's indoor track and field team over the weekend in Boston. The Cardinals competed in the Harvard Crimson Open and the Boston University Valentine Invite on Friday and Saturday.
Kaplan, in a tough field that included multiple Division I athletes, placed fifth in the weight throw during the Harvard meet with a mark of 18.65 meters, just .17 shy of his program record in the event.
Penna, who also competed in the Harvard meet, faced similar high-end competition in the pole vault and tied for second place with Harvard's Daniel Ye at 4.75 meters, the second-best indoor mark in program history. He set Fisher's indoor record earlier this season at 4.95 meters in the Ithaca Indoor Meet.
