PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher wrestling team won eight of 10 matches in a dominant 35-7 dual victory over SUNY Brockport in front of a spirited home crowd on Friday night inside the Manning & Napier Varsity Gym.

The Cardinals improved their dual record to 8-2 overall (4-1 SUNYAC) with the victory, while Brockport fell to 4-6 with its fifth consecutive loss. The victory marked the Cardinals' third in a row over the Golden Eagles.

Brockport won the first and last matches of the dual – Trevor Middendorf opened it with a major decision at 125 pounds, and Mike Welsh closed it with a decision at 285 – but didn't have anything to cheer about in between.

Senior Derek Bernardino began a string of eight straight Fisher wins with a 22-6 technical fall thrashing of Cael Stewart in the 133-pound bout. At 141 pounds, junior Luke Yorke stuck Makhare Rogers to the mat for a fall in 1:48, sending the crowd into a frenzy and putting Fisher ahead 11-4.

Sophomore Trevor Bishop topped Jaden Friel 17-1 by technical fall at 149 pounds, and in arguably the best bout of the night, junior Paul Lichter recorded a late three-point takedown for a resilient 8-6 win by decision over Tyler Rossini. Senior Trevor Sheehan soon after extended Fisher's lead to 25-4 on the team scoreboard with a pin of Max Morrison in 4:39 in the 165-pound match.

Dylan Devine battled for a 13-9 win by decision over Gavin McLaughlin at 174, sophomore Charlie Rossner topped Brody Fry 10-3 by decision at 184 and senior Braydon Vandenberg beat Simon Lingle 10-2 by major decision at 197 to push the Cardinals' lead to 35-4.

Freshman Micah Gillespie put up a valiant battle at 285 pounds, forcing an extra frame with an escape point late in the third period. Welsh earned a takedown in sudden victory to prevail, 4-1.
