UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's ice hockey team fell 7-1 to No. 10 Utica on Friday night, dropping to 9-10 overall (3-8-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference). The Pioneers improved to 13-5-0 and remained unbeaten (9-0-0) in the UCHC.
How it Happened
Six minutes into the opening period, Mathieu MacMillan opened the scoring for the Pioneers. Just over five minutes later, Nick Ahern extended the lead with a goal late in the first period.
Utica continued its strong play in the second period, stretching the advantage to three goals five minutes in when Alexander Gullichsen scored. Drak Morse made it 4-0 with six minutes remaining in the period, and less than four minutes later, Nicholas Rogers added another goal to give the Pioneers a five-goal cushion.
Gullichsen scored his second goal of the game seven minutes into the third period as Utica continued to control the play. The Cardinals broke through a minute later when Sam Ciappa and Mitchell Ferras set up Ian Emery for the team's lone goal. Utica answered again midway through the period as Stepan Kuznetsov found the back of the net.
