Women’s Soccer Edges Geneseo 1-0 On The Road

GENESEO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Empire 8 Conference play with a 1-0 victory over SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium.

The Cardinals, who lost 2-0 to the Knights twice last season, including in the Empire 8 semifinals, improved to 3-3-1 overall with the win. Geneseo dropped to 0-3-3 overall (0-1-1 E8).

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first half, freshman defender Carolyn Rowe broke through for the Cardinals in the 58th minute, finding the back of the net after taking a feed from junior midfielder Francesca Logrippo

  • Goalkeeper Avery Byrnes matched her season high with five saves in the shutout. She made four of those stops in the second half alone.

  • The Cardinals generated 11 shots, including eight on goal, while the Knights attempted 10 and placed five on target.

Game Notes

  • The victory marked Fisher's first over Geneseo since a 1-0 win in 2013. Genseo entered the day with a 4-0-1 record over Fisher since then.

  • Byrnes recorded her 16th career shutout and first of the season.

  • Rowe's goal, the game-winner, marked her second of the year.

  • Logrippo tallied her third assist of the season, tied for the most on the team.
