GENESEO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Empire 8 Conference play with a 1-0 victory over SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium.
The Cardinals, who lost 2-0 to the Knights twice last season, including in the Empire 8 semifinals, improved to 3-3-1 overall with the win. Geneseo dropped to 0-3-3 overall (0-1-1 E8).
How It Happened

After a scoreless first half, freshman defender Carolyn Rowe broke through for the Cardinals in the 58th minute, finding the back of the net after taking a feed from junior midfielder Francesca Logrippo.

Goalkeeper Avery Byrnes matched her season high with five saves in the shutout. She made four of those stops in the second half alone.

The Cardinals generated 11 shots, including eight on goal, while the Knights attempted 10 and placed five on target.

The victory marked Fisher's first over Geneseo since a 1-0 win in 2013. Genseo entered the day with a 4-0-1 record over Fisher since then.
