ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's soccer team scored twice in the final 10 minutes but couldn't dig all the way out of a three-goal deficit in a 3-2 loss to the University of Rochester on Tuesday night at Edwin Fauver Stadium. Fisher fell to 2-3-1 overall, while UR moved to 3-0-2.
How It Happened
-
Rochester went ahead 1-0 just 3:45 in as Sydney Holmes snuck one past Fisher goalkeeper Sofia Pantoja on a feed from Natalie Santangelo. The Yellowjackets doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Eileen Harvey tapped in a pass from Hannah Nagashima on a corner kick.
-
Riya Kunderan gave the Yellowjackets a three-goal lead at the 74:53 mark off assists from Nagashima and Claire Baim.
-
The Cardinals scored twice in under two minutes to put pressure on Rochester down the stretch. Abby Dorunda took a feed from fellow sophomore Emily Woolingham and banked it in off the crossbar before freshman Elizabeth Gaughan bounced in a header on an assist from senior Maddy Jackson to make it a one-goal game.
-
Fisher kept the head on in the final minutes, but Rochester held on after stopping a Woolingham free kick and thwarting another chance on a corner kick at 87:31.
-
Rochester finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots with a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.
