Petocchi Scores First Collegiate Goal But Men's Soccer Falls To Clarkson In Home Opener

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Clarkson University in its home opener on Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the Golden Knights moved to 1-0-1. 

How It Happened 

  • Clarkson scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of play, with Rolland Paul starting the scoring 3:55 seconds in on an assist from Josh Baraka. Paul assisted Noah Partenza on Clarkson's second goal about 16 minutes later. 

  • The Cardinals had few offensive chances in the first half, as the Golden Knights held them to three shots (two on goal). 

  • Fifth-year senior Blake Petocchi scored Fisher's first goal of the season late in the second half, burying a bending, long-distance free kick in the top right corner. 

Game Notes

  • Petocchi's goal marked the first of his collegiate career. 

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Thomas made six saves while facing eight shots.
