Big First Half Propels Men's Lacrosse To Commanding Victory Over Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – Senior attacker Brady Mason scored a career-high six goals to lead the St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team to a commanding 17-5 victory over SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday evening at College Stadium. 

Winners of their last four games, the Cardinals improved to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8 Conference with the victory. The Knights dipped to 6-5 and 3-1, respectively. 

The Cardinals have won 39 consecutive games (regular season and postseason) against Empire 8 teams. 

How It Happened 

  • The Cardinals scored the first nine goals of the game, six of which came in the first quarter. Mason scored four times and had an assist in the first half, while senior Braeden McNeill scored three times, including twice during man-up opportunities. 

  • Junior Matt Slowinski scored his first goal of the season midway through the second quarter to give the Cardinals a 10-1 lead. Fisher scored twice more later in the quarter to take a 12-2 lead into halftime. 

  • Mason finished off his six-goal effort with a goal late in the third quarter and another early in the fourth quarter.

Game Notes

  • Mason (six goals, one assist) amassed seven total points, tied for the second most he's had in a single game in his collegiate career. 

  • Mason has scored 20 goals and amassed 26 total points in the Cardinals' last five games. 

  • Mason now ranks ninth in Fisher history with 106 career goals. 

  • McNeill's four goals marked a career high. 

  • Junior Bryce Riffel set career highs in face-off wins (15 of 23) and ground balls (7). 

  • Fifth-year senior Timmy Salit tied his career-high with six assists. 

  • Freshman JP Revitte and sophomore Robbie Salit each scored twice. Slowinski, Timmy Salit and senior Colin Blakeslee had one goal apiece. 

  • With six ground balls, senior defender Jack Cornell passed Matt Jeffries for 10th on the program's all-time ground balls list. 

  • Junior goalkeeper Tyler Manning made 11 saves.
