Fiorentino Surpasses 100 Career Goals In Women's Lacrosse's 23-1 Win Over Alfred

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Senior attacker Mary Fiorentino surpassed 100 career goals in the No. 10/16 St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team's 23-1 battering of Alfred University on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium. 

The Cardinals improved to 10-0 overall (3-0 Empire 8 Conference) and won their 15th consecutive regular-season game, a streak that dates back to the middle of last season. Alfred fell to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play. 

Fisher has now won 57 consecutive games (regular season and postseason) against Empire 8 opponents. 

Fiorentino scored two goals and had an assist as part of a three-point performance. She recorded her 100th career goal less than five minutes into the contest. 

How It Happened 

  • The Cardinals once again didn't waste any time exerting their dominance, scoring 10 goals before the first period ended. Senior Emma Biel scored three times and had an assist, while junior Kaley Griffin and senior Sydney Carpenter each scored twice. 

  • Fisher took a 16-0 lead into halftime after adding six more goals in the second quarter. Junior Dharma Makarowsky scored three goals and had an assist during that period. 

  • The Cardinals scored seven more times to extend their run of unanswered goals to 23 before Alfred finally cracked the scoreboard with just under four minutes remaining in the game. Juniors Megan McGrath and Sydney Closinski each scored twice in the second half. 

Game Notes

  • Fiorentino joined fellow senior Hanna Kumpf as the second Fisher player to surpass 100 career goals this season. 

  • Makarowsky set a season high with three goals and a career high with two assists. She tied her career high in total points (5). 

  • Biel and Griffin also scored three goals in the contest for the Cardinals. Carpenter, Closinski, McGrath and junior Alivia Nieman had two. 

  • Freshman Chloe Scanlan had her first collegiate multi-point game, scoring a goal and tallying two assists. 

  • Kumpf, senior Farrah Zalla and junior Kayla Schatz each scored once. 

  • Carpenter has now scored at least one goal in 22 consecutive games dating back to the middle of last season. 

  • Carpenter has tallied multiple points in 21 of her last 22 games dating back to the middle of last season. 

  • The Cardinals finished with a 21-5 advantage in draw controls. Griffin, Kumpf and junior Maddie Lowney each won five of them. 

  • Fisher set season highs in points (36), goals (23), ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (17). 

  • Griffin caused a career-high four turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Lowney, Kumpf, senior Taylor Scoville and sophomore Leah Hilton each caused two turnovers. 

  • Sophomore Chelsea Lopata scooped up a career-high four ground balls. 

  • Sophomores Kaylee Gadol and Emma Batko each saw action in net. Alfred attempted just six shots (two on goal).
