Women's Lacrosse Wraps Up Perfect Regular Season With 22-3 Win At Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore Chelsea Lopata scored two goals and dished out seven assists as she amassed nine total points in the St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team's 22-3 victory over Hartwick on Saturday afternoon at Wright Stadium.

The Cardinals (16-0, 9-0 Empire 8 Conference) completed the program's first-ever undefeated regular season with the victory. They will begin postseason play against No. 4 Nazareth or No. 5 Hartwick in the Empire 8 Semifinals on Thursday, May 1, at Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals have now won 21 consecutive regular-season games since the middle of last season and 63 in a row against Empire 8 teams since 2018 (counting regular season and postseason contests).

Lopata tied the program record for assists in a game and matched the fourth-best mark for single-game points.

How It Happened

  • Senior Emma Biel scored the first two goals in a six-goal first quarter for the Cardinals. Senior Mary Fiorentino and juniors Dharma Makarowsky, Kaley Griffin and Sydney Closinski had the other four tallies in the opening frame.

  • Lopata had the assist on four of those six first-quarter goals.

  • The Cardinals led 12-2 at halftime after piling on six more goals in the second quarter, during which Fiorentino scored twice. Closinski and Griffin added their second goals of the game, while Lopata and senior Hanna Kumpf found the back of the net once.

  • Fiorentino (2) and Kumpf (2) scored the Cardinals' first four goals of the second half. Biel scored twice more, while Lopata recorded her second goal of the contest and added three more assists in the third quarter.

  • Griffin finished off a three-goal performance less than a minute into the fourth quarter. Freshman Ally Stank and junior Alivia Nieman accounted for Fisher's final two tallies.

Game Notes

  • The Cardinals had six players score multiple goals: Fiorentino (5), Biel (4), Kumpf (3), Griffin (3), Lopata (2) and Closinski (2).

  • Fiorentino tied her career single-game high with her five goals.
