Men's Lacrosse Handles Utica 15-4

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Four players tallied multiple points for the St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team in a 15-4 dubbing of Utica University on Wednesday evening in frigid, rainy conditions at Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8, while Utica dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Fisher has now won 37 consecutive games against E8 opponents (including regular-season and postseason contests). 

How It Happened

  • Sophomore Sean Donaldson scored 35 seconds into the game to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

  • Fisher started to pour it on about eight minutes later, starting with senior Kyler Ringgold's goal at the 6:08 mark. Seniors Brady Mason and Connor Mesh scored about a minute apart to put Fisher ahead 4-0. 

  • Mason and fifth-year seniors Jordan Leuze and Timmy Salit found the back of the net during a two-minute man-up opportunity at the end of the quarter to extend the Cardinals' lead to seven. 

  • Seniors Braeden McNeill (2) and Colin Blakeslee and junior Lane Edinger scored in the second quarter to send Fisher into halftime ahead 11-0. 

  • Sophomore Garrett Sutton pushed the Cardinals' string of unanswered goals to 12 early in the second half. About a minute after Utica finally got on the board, Mason tallied his third goal of the day to make it 13-1. 

  • Freshman Tyson DeLisio and senior Ethan Kesselring capped the dominant victory for the Cardinals with goals in the fourth quarter. 

Game Notes

  • The Cardinals have outscored their first two Empire 8 opponents 38-6. 

  • The Cardinals won their sixth game in a row against Utica. They have won all of those games by nine goals or more. 

  • The Cardinals went 4 of 4 on extra-man chances and outshot the Pioneers 52-19. 

  • The Cardinals went 28 of 29 on clearing attempts. 

  • Mason led the Cardinals with three goals and added an assist as part of a four-point performance. Salit, who scored once and dished out three assists, also had four points. 

  • McNeill had two goals and an assist for three points. Kesselring, who scored and recorded an assist, had two points. 

  • Ringgold and freshman Garrin Dougherty each picked up a career-high four ground balls. The Cardinals finished with a season-high 46 ground balls. 

  • Junior Tyler Manning started in net and made eight saves, earning credit for the victory. Sophomore Ian McIntyre and senior Jack Gullo each made two saves.
