Fisher Falls to Benedictine in Florida Matchup

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The St. John Fisher baseball team came up short in a 6-3 loss to Benedictine (IL) on Tuesday at Northeast Regional Park. The Cardinals dropped to 3-3 on the season, while Benedictine improved to 3-2.

How It Happened

Benedictine struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning before through for four more runs in the fourth, capitalizing on timely hits and an RBI sacrifice fly.

Fisher got on the board in the sixth inning, as Jordan Perry's RBI fielder's choice plated Jack Griffin, followed by Jimmy McCardle's RBI single, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

The Cardinals inched closer in the eighth when Ryan Vanderlip delivered an RBI single to score Noah Pohrte, making it 5-3. However, Benedictine responded in the bottom of the inning, adding an insurance run to extend the lead to 6-3.

Fisher threatened in the ninth as Jackson Frey tripled with one out, but the Cardinals couldn't bring him home as Benedictine's bullpen shut the door.

Game Notes

  • Vanderlip led the Cardinals with two hits and an RBI, while Griffin and Matthew Arnold each added two hits.

  • Frey went 2-for-5, including a triple, Fisher's only extra-base hit of the game.

  • Perry and McCardle each recorded an RBI.

  • Robert Leach made his first start of the season, allowing three runs over 3.1 innings with four strikeouts.
