No. 12 Men's Volleyball Falls To No. 18 Nazareth In Five Sets In Home Finale

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 12 St. John Fisher men's volleyball team fell in five sets to crosstown rival Nazareth on Friday night at the Manning and Napier Varsity Gym. 

The Cardinals fell to 22-8 overall and 4-3 in the United Volleyball Conference, while Nazareth, ranked No. 18 in Division III, improved to 17-10 overall and 4-2 in the UVC. The Golden Flyers can secure the No. 3 seed for the UVC Tournament over Fisher with a victory over Elmira on Wednesday. 

How It Happened 

  • Nazareth slammed 14 kills and hit .435 en route to a 25-21 victory in the first set. The Cardinals struggled in the opening frame, hitting under .200 with seven errors. 

  • The Cardinals rebounded in the second set with a 25-19 victory. They hit .484 with 17 kills.

  • Nazareth went back ahead with a 25-19 third-set victory. 

  • The Cardinals forced a fifth set with a 25-22 win in the fourth. Casey Jackson was on a heater in that set for Fisher, as he slammed eight kills, including two straight at the end of the set to secure the victory. 

  • The Cardinals fell behind 7-2 in the fifth set and couldn't keep up, losing 15-11. Fisher had six attacking errors in the final frame. 

Match Notes

  • Jackson set a career-high with 15 kills and hit .250. He also stuffed the stat sheet with three service aces and two total blocks. 

  • Griffin Stella led the Cardinals with seven total blocks and slammed 11 kills. He hit .435. 

  • Setter Gavin Newman tallied 37 assists. 

  • Libero Trace La Robardiere had 11 digs.
