Williamstown, Mass. – Senior midfielder Emma Biel and sophomore attacker Ellie Leisen led the St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team with three goals apiece in a 10-8 victory over Williams College on Saturday at Farley-Lamb Field.
The Cardinals improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2021, while Williams opened its season 0-1.
Biel, the Cardinals' leader in goals (11) so far this season, has scored at least three times in each of Fisher's first three games. Leisen matched her career-high with her three tallies on Saturday.
How it Happened

The Purple Cows scored first at about four minutes in before Biel scored back-to-back goals to put the Cardinals on top 2-1.

After Williams scored twice to briefly regain the lead, Leisen scored all three of her goals as part of a 4-0 run that gave the Cardinals a 6-3 lead. Senior midfielder Hanna Kumpf scored the other goal for the Cardinals in that stretch.

Kumpf and fellow senior midfielders Sydney Carpenter and Farrah Zalla extended the Cardinals' lead to 9-4 with goals in the third quarter. Williams got one back at the end of the quarter, cutting its deficit to four (9-5).

Biel, with an assist from Carpenter, scored her third goal of the game to give the Cardinals a 10-6 lead early in the fourth. Williams scored twice more to trim Fisher's lead to two (10–8) with plenty of time remaining, but Fisher held tight defensively to secure the victory.

The Cardinals made their defensive presence known, as junior Preseason All-American defender Maddie Lowney and sophomore defender Emily DeVoe each caused three turnovers. Kumpf had two caused turnovers, while freshman defender Chelsea Mesick, junior midfielder Paige Miller, senior midfielder Ella Stewart and Carpenter each contributed with one caused turnover. The Purple Cows had 21 total turnovers in the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylee Gadol made seven saves and earned credit for the victory.
