COLUMBUS, Ga. – Sophomore Emily McManus hit a pair of two-run home runs as the St. John Fisher softball team opened the 2025 season on Friday with victories over Stevens and Pacific Lutheran in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic.
Game 1: St. John Fisher 4, Stevens 1
With two outs and junior Madi Rose on second, McManus, who led the Cardinals with 13 round-trippers last season, ripped her first homer of the day to put the Cardinals ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Stevens got one back in the top of the second on Madison Subbiondo's solo home run but didn't push across another run the rest of the game. Senior pitcher Ainsley Evanetski, who pitched all seven innings and struck out five batters, gave up just four more hits as she earned the victory in the circle.
Rose and senior Cassidy Evanetski plated insurance runs for the Cardinals with RBI singles in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
Rose and sophomore Taylor Shackleton led the Cardinals with two hits apiece.
Game 2: St. John Fisher 7, Pacific Lutheran 6 (8 innings)

After senior Amalia DeMartino doubled, McManus sparked the comeback with her second two-run home run of the day to make it a 5-4 game in the top of the fifth inning.
In the sixth, senior Cassidy Evanetski tied the game with a double that scored Liv Godley. Evanetski later scored to give the Cardinals the lead on senior Tori LoPresto's single.

The Cardinals played small ball to push across the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning. Junior Gracie Curella advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Katie Mannis and scored on Evanetski's sacrifice fly.
