PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Five St. John Fisher University field hockey student-athletes have earned All-Empire 8 honors for the 2025 season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Junior forward Mary Kate McPhee and sophomore defender Alison Taplin earned first-team honors. Sophomore attacker Avery McLaughlin landed on the second team, while sophomore defender Jordan Kauffman and sophomore attacker Sam Current garnered third-team recognition.
Additionally, senior forward Morgan Gregory was selected as St. John Fisher's representative on the conference's "Tomorrow's Leaders Team." The Tomorrow's Leaders Team recognizes a student-athlete from each E8 team who has demonstrated leadership in competition, in the classroom and in their community.
This marks the first time that McPhee, a second-team pick as a freshman in 2023, has earned first-team All-E8 honors. She set career highs in goals (11), assists (8) and total points (30) while playing in all 18 of the Cardinals' games this season.
Taplin, also a first-team All-E8 honoree for the first time, helped lead the Cardinals' defense and had six points on two goals and two assists. A second-team selection last year, she also had two defensive saves, tied for the most on the team.
This marks the first time that McLaughlin, Kauffmann and Current have earned All-Empire 8 honors.
McLaughlin tallied a team-high 32 points on 12 goals and eight assists. She tallied five points or more in four games, including a career-high eight with three goals and two assists against Alfred.
Kauffmann amassed six assists and had a key role on the Cardinals' back line this season. She also recorded a pair of defensive saves.
Current finished third on the team with 20 points on nine goals and two assists.
The Cardinals finished the season 10-8 overall and reached the Empire 8 Conference semifinals.
