Powers Scores Early, Stusek Records Shutout As Men's Soccer Defeats SUNY Poly

UTICA, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper Parker Stusek recorded his third consecutive shutout in a 1-0 road win over SUNY Poly on Wednesday night at Wildcat Field. The Cardinals improved to 2-2-2 in Empire 8 Conference play (2-7-2 overall), while the Wildcats dropped to 0-5 in E8 play (2-9-1 overall).

How It Happened

The Cardinals struck early when senior midfielder Reese Powers scored his second goal of the season in the third minute and prevented Poly from generating many quality scoring chances from there.

While the Wildcats finished with a 21-6 edge in total shots, only six of their shots were on target.

Stusek, named Empire 8 Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, made six saves to record the clean sheet.

Game Notes

  • Both of Powers' goals this season have been game-winning tallies.

  • Stusek has made six or more saves in three of the Cardinals' last four games.
