KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Junior Mary Kate McPhee and sophomore Avery McLaughlin scored twice apiece to lead the St. John Fisher field hockey team to a 5-1 road victory of Keuka College on Saturday. The Cardinals improved to 8-7 overall (6-3 Empire 8), while the Wolves fell to 2-13 overall (2-6 Empire 8).
The Cardinals currently hold the No. 4 seed for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament, which begins next Saturday.
How it Happened
Just more than 10 minutes into the opening quarter, sophomore Jordan Kauffman found McPhee in the circle, and she buried a shot for the first goal of the contest. Fisher held that one-goal edge for the rest of the half.
After halftime, the Cardinals came out strong, with McLaughlin finding the back of the net just under seven minutes into the third quarter. Less than three minutes later, senior Morgan Gregory added a goal to give the Cardinals a three-goal lead.
McLaughlin struck again for the Cardinals' fourth goal midway through the fourth quarter. With less than two minutes remaining, Teresa Smith delivered a perfect pass to McPhee, who fired in the Cardinals' fifth and final goal of the game.
Fisher outshot Keuka 23-2 in the contest, with one being Alexis McGregor's goal in the fourth quarter.
