PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher field hockey team secured the No. 4 seed for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament with a 7-1 victory over SUNY Brockport on Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium.
The Cardinals (9-7, 7-3 Empire 8) will host the No. 5-seeded Houghton (10-5, 6-4 Empire 8) in the first round of the E8 Tournament on Saturday. A start time for the contest has not yet been determined.
Five Fisher players contributed to the scoring attack against Brockport. Senior attacker Katie Schirrmacher scored twice for her first collegiate multi-goal performance.
How It Happened
The Cardinals cracked the scoreboard 54 seconds in as sophomore attacker Sam Current ripped a penalty stroke attempt past Brockport goalkeeper Katelynn Banning. About nine minutes later, senior midfielder Emma Muchow made it 2-0 on a feed from sophomore midfielder Sydney Byrns.
The Cardinals led 3-0 at halftime after Schirrmacher scored her first goal of the game in the second quarter.
Fisher added four more goals in the second half, with junior midfielder Mary Kate McPhee scoring in the third quarter. Schirrmacher, senior attacker Morgan Gregory and sophomore attacker Avery McLaughlin found the back of the net in the final quarter.
Makenna Hart scored Brockport's lone goal of the contest in the third quarter.
Fisher finished with a 19-5 edge in shots, including 16-2 in attempts placed on target.
Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Parrinello made one save while recording her eighth victory of the season.

McPhee netted her 10th goal of the season, tied for her career high. She leads Fisher with 28 total points.

The Cardinals have won seven E8 regular-season contests in three of head coach Lauren Scorza's four seasons. Fisher has had a winning record in conference play every season under Scorza.
