PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team dominated East Avenue rival Nazareth on Tuesday night at Kidera Gymnasium for its 14th consecutive sweep and 22nd consecutive victory overall.
The Cardinals (22-1, 7-0 Empire 8), tied with East Texas Baptist for the longest winning streak in Division III, slammed 43 kills while hitting .444 and aced 10 serves in the thrashing. Nazareth (1-21, 1-6 Empire 8) managed just eight points apiece in the second and third sets.
Freshman outside hitter Kalyna Dannenberg led the Cardinals with 12 kills while hitting .370, and junior middle blocker Ana Gutman racked up nine kills on a scorching .818 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Kaylene Noble, who hit .438, slammed nine kills and had a team-high 10 digs.
Lydia Fraser, a sophomore outside hitter, tallied 12 points on eight kills and four service aces. She also finished with a .438 hitting percentage.
How It Happened
Fraser and Dannenberg each slammed three kills to lead the Cardinals to a 25-15 victory in the opening set. Aided by four Nazareth attacking errors, Fisher scored 10 of the first 13 points in the frame.
The Cardinals amassed 16 kills while hitting .500 on the way to a 25-8 drubbing of the Golden Flyers in the second set. Dannenberg and Gutman each had five kills, and Noble chipped in four. Senior setter Reilly Morrow tallied 14 assists.
The third set was almost a carbon copy of the second, with the Cardinals slamming 15 kills, hitting .500 and winning 25-8. Dannenberg led the way with four kills, while Fraser, Gutman and Noble each recorded three. Morrow had two kills and added 13 more assists to finish the match with 35.
