HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Fifth-year senior defender Blake Petocchi tallied his first collegiate multi-assist game in a 3-0 road victory for the St. John Fisher men's soccer team over Houghton on Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals improved to 3-8-2 overall and 3-3-2 in Empire 8 play with the shutout win, while Houghton dropped to 3-9-1 and 1-5-1. The clean sheet marked Fisher's fourth in its last five games.
How It Happened
Fisher broke through in the 32nd minute when freshman Jeremiah Strader scored his second goal of the season off a pass from senior Tommy Mullane. Junior Jack Walsh added to the lead just before halftime, finishing a free kick setup from Petocchi.
Just seconds into the second half, Petocchi used his head to deflect pass off to Powers, who scored his third goal of the season to make the score 3-0.
The Cardinals controlled possession from start to finish, outshooting Houghton 24-5 and earning 10 corner kicks. Fisher freshman goalkeeper Parker Stusek, responsible for all of Fisher's shutouts this season, made one save to secure the clean sheet.
