Men's Soccer Earns Senior Day Win in 1-0 Victory Over Hartwick

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's soccer team recorded another clean sheet on Saturday as it earned a 1-0 Senior Day victory over Hartwick College at Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals (4-8-2, 4-3-2 Empire 8 Conference), winners of two in a row for the first time this season, have held five of their six opponents in October scoreless. They have three 1-0 wins this month.

Fisher has won five consecutive games against Hartwick (4-8-2, 3-5-1 Empire 8 Conference).

The Cardinals honored their 13 seniors during a brief ceremony before the game. That group included Tommy Mullane, Reese Powers, Nick Rippe, Nik Linder, Aidan Furmansky, Nicolas LaRosa, Daniel Millson, Sam Emerson, Connor Dziulko, Jacob Neupert, Jacob McGinnis, Blake Petocchi and team manager Joel Morris

How It Happened

The Cardinals broke through in the 32nd minute when Jack Tamburino controlled the ball after a handful of deflections and fired a shot past Hartwick keeper Jelani Usim for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Fisher senior midfielder/defender Nick Rippe made the play of the game about 13 minutes into the second half, as he recorded a defensive save on a wide-open Mariano Kool shot to keep the game tied. Rippe blocked the ball with his chest just as it approached the line.

Goalkeeper Parker Stusek made a pair of saves as part of his second straight shoutout and fifth overall this season.

Game Notes

  • The Cardinals, after starting 0-7-1 overall and 0-2-1 in Empire 8 play, own a 4-1-1 record in October.

  • Stusek has allowed just one goal in his last six contests.
