ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in Empire 8 Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Alfred University on Wednesday night at Yunevich Stadium.
The Cardinals, winners of three of their last four contests, improved to 5-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in league play. Alfred dropped to 6-4-1 and 2-2-1, respectively.
Fisher has beaten Alfred 1-0 four times since 2021, including twice in a row. The Cardinals edged Alfred 1-0 in overtime in the Empire 8 Tournament last November.
How It Happened
The Cardinals got on the board at the 17:45 mark in the first half and played stout defense the rest of the way. Forward Emily Woolingham took control of a bouncing ball near midfield and sent a perfect pass about 25 yards downfield to fellow sophomore Abby Dorunda, who snuck her shot past a diving defender and to the right of goalkeeper Kiani Barndard-Pratt to give the Cardinals that 1-0 edge.
St. John Fisher senior goalkeeper Avery Byrnes made four saves in the shutout victory. She faced just one shot in the second half.
