UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University wrestling team set a program record for points scored in a dual meet in a dominant 56-0 victory over Utica University on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.
The Cardinals improved to 2-1 in dual-meet action this season, while the upstart Pioneers fell to 0-6. Fisher's 56-point win marked the largest margin of victory in a dual in program history.
Sophomore Daniel Parkulo (125 pounds), junior Trevor Sheehan (174 pounds) and sophomore Jackson Burns (285 pounds) won their matches by fall in short order. Burns had quickest victory of the day, pinning Seth Northrop in 24 seconds.
Burns has won all three of his dual matches via pin this season, and only one of those matches took longer than four minutes.
Four other Fisher wrestlers – junior Derek Bernardino (133), freshman Shay Sinitiere (141), junior Torin Bishop (149) and sophomore Paul Lichter (157) — won by technical fall. Two of Lichter's three dual wins this season have come via technical fall.
The Cardinals were initially scheduled to face Elmira in addition to Utica on Saturday. Elmira canceled that dual due to travel complications.
