UTICA, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals for the St. John Fisher University field hockey team on Saturday as the Cardinals beat Utica 4-1 at Gaetano Stadium.
The Cardinals (4-6), winners of four of their last six games, improved to 2-0 in the Empire 8. Utica fell to 0-6 overall (0-2 Empire 8).
The Cardinals scored first when Audrey Grieb found the back of the net on an assist from Mary Kate McPhee as time expired in the first quarter. McPhee scored one for herself midway through the second period, extending Fisher's lead to 2-0.
Utica cut Fisher's lead in half about four minutes later on Alyssa Pisano's goal. Fisher struck back 10 minutes into the second half, regaining their two-goal lead on Haley Acevedo's first goal of the season. It was her third career goal and first since last October against Elmira.
The Cardinals added their final tally in the fourth, as they extended their lead to three on Emma Cooper's fourth goal of the season. Grieb got credit for the assist, her third in Fisher's last five games. She's recorded multiple points in four of the Cardinals' 10 games overall.
In net, freshman goalkeeper Morgan Parrinello made a career-high nine saves.
