McGinnis Scores As Men's Soccer Ties Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's soccer team came away with another draw on Wednesday night, tying Utica 1-1 at the Laura M. Casamento Track and Field Complex.

Game Notes

  • The Cardinals (2-2-4, 1-0-2 Empire 8) have tied their last two opponents. They have four draws this season, the second-most in the Empire 8 behind Utica (5). 

  • Utica (1-2-5, 0-0-2) opened the scoring in the contest, as Evan Smith scored at the 8:43 mark on an assist from Maximilian Pawlowski. 

  • The Cardinals salvaged the draw in the second half. Senior Jacob McGinnis scored his first goal of the season – and second of his career – to tie the game on an assist from senior Trevor Heschke at the 61:06 mark. It was Heschke's first assist (and point) of the season. 

  • Senior goalkeeper Christian Burkhart made four saves in the contest. 

  • The Cardinals had 16 shots to Utica's six. They had a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. 

  • The Cardinals are 13-7-2 against the Pioneers since 2005.
