Volleyball Splits Saturday Doubleheader At Bengal Invite

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team split its Saturday doubleheader at the Bengal Challenge, falling to Capital 3-1 to start the day before beating Buffalo State 3-2 in the afternoon. The Cardinals (6-6) won two of their three matches at the two-day event at Buffalo State's Sports Arena. 

Match 1: Capital 3, St. John Fisher 1

  • The Cardinals won the first set 25-19 before losing the second 26-24, the third 25-23 and the fourth 25-20. 

  • Freshman Lydia Fraser led the Cardinals with 16 kills.

  • Junior Reilly Morrow led the team with four aces and 30 assists. 

  • The Cardinals had 10 aces as a team. 

Match 2: St. John Fisher 3, Buffalo State 2

  • The Cardinals won the first set 25-23 before dropping the second 25-23 and the third 25-16. Fisher rallied to win the match, taking the fourth set 25-20 and the fifth 15-6. 

  • Sophomore outside hitter Kaylene Noble had a season-high 18 kills, including two in the decisive fifth set. 

  • Fraser had a season-high 17 kills, including three in the fifth set. 

  • Noble and Fraser led the Cardinals in points with 18 apiece. 

  • Sophomore Ana Gutman had seven kills and posted a .333 hitting percentage. 

  • Morrow had three service aces and a match-high 39 assists. 

  • Junior middle blocker/outside hitter Marilyn Whitcavitch had a season-high three service aces.
