Women's Soccer Beats Elmira 4-0 To Open Empire 8 Play

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's soccer team won for the third time in its last four games as it opened Empire 8 play with a 4-0 victory over Elmira College on Saturday afternoon. 

Game Notes

  • The Cardinals improved to 3-1-1 (1-0 Empire 8). 

  • Fisher has won 17 of the last 19 games it has played against Elmira. Head coach Molly Romano owns a 5-0 record against the Soaring Eagles. 

  • Junior Madelyn Wania scored her fourth goal of the season to open the scoring in the first half. Senior Gwen Madden had the assist. 

  • Minutes later, junior Ryann Dauksza scored her second career goal (and first this season) to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. She was assisted by senior Emma Spelman

  • Madden scored her first goal since the 2022 season to make it 3-0 early in the second half. Spelman also recorded the assist on that tally. 

  • Spelman now has 22 assists for her career. She's tied with Wania for the team lead with three. 

  • Senior Kate Rachwal, who was assisted by Wania, scored Fisher's final goal at the 64:38 mark. It was her second goal of the season. 

  • Wania has recorded multiple points in two of Fisher's last three games. She leads the team with 11. 

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Sofia Pantoja made three saves. Junior Avery Byrnes made four. 

  • Fisher set season highs in total shots (30) and shots on goal (22).
