Spelman, Wania Earn Points In Women's Soccer's Draw Against RIT

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team (2-1-1) held a second-half lead on Tuesday night against RIT at Growney Stadium, but the Tigers answered late to force a 2-2 draw.

The Cardinals scored in conventional – and unintentional – ways in the non-conference contest. They got on the board first just more than a minute in, after junior forward Madelyn Wania's corner kick deflected off at least one RIT defender and past goalkeeper Emily Sanchez for an own goal.

That lead lasted until the 11:57 mark, as RIT's Olivia Harris found the back of the net off an assist from Jessie Gomez.

Fisher retook the lead – this time in the 75th minute – when senior midfielder Emma Spelman, who's scored in two straight games, tallied her third goal of the season. Wania, who has eight points in her last two games, earned the assist on a spectacular pass from the other side of the field. Spelman and Wania are tied for the team lead with eight points apiece through four games.

RIT's Elena Onodera evened the score about nine minutes later. She was assisted by Rachel Marriott.
