PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Two St. John Fisher women's soccer players scored their first career goals as the Cardinals beat the Allegheny Gators 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium.
The Cardinals (1-1) earned their first victory of the season, while Allegheny fell to 0-2. Fisher improved to 2-0 all-time against the Gators.
The Cardinals took an lead early and never lost command, scoring their first goal of the season when senior forward Riley Grimm found the back of the net on a feed from senior defender Gwen Madden at the 11:16 mark. St. John Fisher went ahead 2-0 later in the first half on Francesca Logrippo's goal – the second of her career and first September of last year – at 26:11. Senior midfielder Emma Spelman recorded the assist.
Allegheny cut Fisher's lead in half early in the second half on Emma Miller's first goal of the season, but the Cardinals responded about 10 minutes later. Sophomore midfielder Carli Maltbie scored her first collegiate goal and put Fisher ahead 3-1 on an assist from freshman forward Emily Woolingham, who recorded her first collegiate point.
Later in the half, Woolingham checked off another collegiate first, scoring her first goal (unassisted) to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead.
Madeline Schneider scored Allegheny's second goal of the game at 76:21.
St. John Fisher sophomore goalkeeper Sofia Pantoja started for the first time in her career. She made two saves while playing all 90 minutes.

The Cardinals face Buffalo State at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Buffalo. Fisher last played the Bengals in 2021, winning 9-0.
