ITHACA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher field hockey team fell to No. 23 Ithaca College 3-1 on Sunday at Higgins Stadium. The Cardinals dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the Bombers improved to 2-0.
The Cardinals, who've lost three straight meetings to Ithaca, got on the board first. They took a 1-0 lead just more than two minutes into the contest when sophomore Mary Kate McPhee assisted Audrey Grieb, who tapped in Fisher's first goal of the season.
St. John Fisher held that lead for the rest of the first quarter, but the Bombers tied it in the second on Julianna Valli's first goal of the season. Ithaca scored twice more in the third quarter – Abby Hennessy and Mia Woodard had the tallies – to secure the victory.
Ithaca finished with 30 shots, putting 19 of them on goal. The Cardinals had just six shots in all (three on goal).
Cardinals goalkeeper Senja Matson made 15 saves in the contest. Ithaca goalkeeper Abby Cannon had two saves.
