POTSDAM, N.Y. – Clarkson broke a 0-0 tie in the 76th minute in a 1-0 win over the St. John Fisher University men's soccer team on Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field. Clarkson (1-0) has now won three of four meetings in the series and two straight games since the two teams tied in 2016.
Fisher logged nine shots (three on goal) and had six corner-kick opportunities in the contest. Ryan Brown, Joey Avallone and Jack Tamburino had the shots on net for the Cardinals.
Clarkson got on the board with less than 15 remaining in the contest when Zach Shufelt found the back of the net on a pass from Logan Drake. It was one of two shots on goal for the Golden Knights in the contest.
Cardinals goalkeeper Christian Burkhart finished the contest with one save. Clarkson goalkeeper Carter Kladstrup had three in the shutout effort.
The Cardinals face Hobart at 4 p.m. Sunday at Growney Stadium. Hobart owns a 29-15-5 lead in the all-time series, though Fisher won last year's meeting 3-1 in Geneva.
