POTSDAM, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team were away from home on Wednesday to take on Clarkson University on Wednesday. The matchup was competitive, but a late push by Fisher was not enough as they fell, 12-10.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when
Matt Slowinski found
Keaton Piconi in the first period. After the Knights evened the score,
Brady Mason scored a pair of goals to push the advantage to 3-1. Clarkson put in one at the horn and after one, Fisher led 3-2. As the second quarter began, the Knights scored two to take the lead, but
Braeden McNeill converted off a Slowinski assists to even the game at 4-4 going into halftime.
Out of the break, the Cardinals allowed three straight goals before
Brady Mason scored his third of the day. At the start of the fourth, Fisher went on a run with
Lane Edinger and
Matthew Kemmis combining for three goals and cutting the deficit to 10-9 with seven minutes to go. The Cardinals were unable to complete the comeback and fell by a final score of 12-10.
Mason led the way with a hat-trick. Kemmis recorded two goals and one assist for three points, while collecting three ground balls and causing two turnovers.
Up next for Fisher is an Empire 8 meeting against Hartwick College on the road. The match is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 with a start time of 2 p.m.
