ALBANY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team was on the road on Saturday to take on Russell Sage College in the regular season finale. The Cardinals scored early and often to shut out he Gators, 21-0.
Sydney Carpenter got the scoring started at the 11:47 mark. In a two-minute stretch,
Farrah Zalla,
Cara Landry and
Kaley Griffin, each scored to put the team up 4-1. As the first quarter concluded, Zalla added her second and
Dharma Makarowsky slotted in her first of the day. In the second quarter, Carpenter scored three straight, before Makarowsky and Griffin scored their second goal each.
Ellie Leisen had her named called for her first goal of the day and the Cardinals were up 12-0 at halftime.
The nine goals scored in the second half was by eight different goal scorers.
Alivia Nieman was the multi-goal scorer with two, one in the third and one in the fourth.
Chelsea Lopata,
Kayla Schatz,
Megan McGrath and
Sydney Closinski all scored in the third. In the final quarter, Makarowsky completed her hat trick, while
Paige Miller and
Taylor Maxam recorded their first goals of the afternoon.
Closinski led the way in points with five thanks to one goal and four assists. Carpenter (4 goals), Nieman (2 goals, 2 assists) and Makarowski, (3 goals and 1 assist) all finished with four points.
Maggie Cross earned the start and the win, playing 30 minutes and making one save.
Emma Batko saw the final 30 minutes of action.
Up next for the Cardinals is the Empire 8 Championship Semi-Final on Wednesday, May 1. They will take on no. 4 seed Hartwick College at 7 p.m. at home.
