Softball clinches E8 Regular Season title with two wins in Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University softball team is the 2024 Empire 8 regular season champion, clinching the top seed of the conference tournament with two wins over Keuka on Saturday.

The Cardinals outscored the Wolves 22-0 in the two run-rule shortened contests, winning 10-0 and 12-0.

GAME 1: FISHER 10, KEUKA 0 (6 INNINGS)

Fisher scored seven runs, culminating in an RBI triple from junior catcher Mari Spitz, in the top of the sixth to force an early end in game one.

Seven of the nine starters recorded at least one hit and one RBI in the win. Sophomore Madi Rose, junior Maddie Donlin, and freshman Emily McManus all had two RBI each.

In the circle, junior Ainsley Evanetski threw a complete-game shutout of six innings, striking out 10 while allowing just three hits. The result moves her to 12-2 on the season.

GAME 2: FISHER 12, KEUKA 0 (5 INNINGS)

Madi Rose started the game off with a solo home run, and that set the tone for the rest of the game as the Cardinals forced another run-rule finish.

Rose ultimately finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. McManus doubled and knocked in three during the game, tying junior Tori Lopresto for the team lead in RBI for the game. Junior Marion Leskovar and senior Kelly Cournoyer each tripled.

Junior Cassidy Ormond won her 14th game of the season, going three innings while striking out five and giving up two hits. Freshman Molly Kuhn followed up with two innings of relief, giving up two hits while striking out four.

The Cardinals have now won 18 straight and will aim to move to 19 straight next Saturday, May 4, when they host Utica. The first game is at 1 P.M.
