Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Cardinals Defeat Union On The Road, 13-7

SCHENECTADY N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team used a big first-quarter to jump ahead in a road contest against Union College. They added six more goals in the second half to come away with a 13-7 victory, moving their record to 8-7.
 
The Cardinals scored five unanswered goals to begin the game, starting with Hanna Kumpf just 40 seconds into the contest. Cara Landry added a pair in a 45 second span and Kaley Griffin scored her first of the day. Kumpf tallied her second of the day before the Garnet Chargers recorded their first score of the afternoon. Mary Fiorentino made the score 6-1 after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, Fisher scored just once with Ellie Leisen slotting her shot at the 8:17 mark, and at the half, the team led 7-3.
 
When Union got back to within three, the Cardinals turned up the intensity by scoring three straight. Landry began the run with her third, before Griffin and Kumpf both scored to push the lead to 10-4 heading into the final frame. In the fourth, Landry once again scored and makes by Fiorentino and Sydney Carpenter were separated by a Union goal. As the game concluded, Fisher secured the 13-7 victory.
 
Despite only scoring once, Carpenter led the team in points after recorded four assists. Landry finished the day with four goals, while Fiorentino and Griffin each tallied two goals and two assists a piece. Kaylee Gadol got the start in goal, but it was Maggie Cross that earned the win after playing just over 32 minutes and making four saves.
 
Up next is the regular season finale. The Cardinals will travel to Russell Sage College for an Empire 8 contest. The matchup will take place on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
