HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University softball team moved its win streak to 16 straight on Friday, beating Houghton in both ends of a doubleheader. In game two, junior Cassidy Ormond threw her second no-hitter of the season, having earlier thrown a perfect game on March 27 against RIT.
GAME 1: FISHER 16, HOUGHTON 5 (5 INNINGS)
A 10-run fifth propelled the Cardinals to a run-rule victory in game one, turning a close 6-3 contest into an offensive explosion that included seven hits, three walks, and an error by Houghton.
Junior Cassidy Evanetski was among the team leaders offensively, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and finishing a home run short of the cycle. Freshman Taylor Shackleton also knocked in three runs, including two on a double. Madi Rose, Mari Spitz, Kelly Cournoyer, and Emma MacLachlan all had two RBI each.
In the circle, junior Ainsley Evanetski struck out five as she earned her 11th win.
GAME 2: FISHER 10, HOUGHTON 0 (5 INNINGS)
Junior Cassidy Ormond struck out four from the circle and allowed only one baserunner due to an error as she threw her second no-hitter of the season as the Cardinals finished the sweep. Ormond's win moves her to 13-2 on the season.
Freshman Emily McManus went 2-for-3 with a double and her team-leading 10th home run as Fisher again forced an early end thanks to the run rule. McManus' 10 round-trippers this season are tied for sixth all-time in the Cardinals' single-season record book.
Maddie Donlin, Shackleton, Spitz, Cournoyer, MacLachlan, and junior Amalia DeMartino all had an RBI each. Five different Cardinals had doubles in the game.
Fisher continues a busy stretch on the schedule on Saturday when they head to Keuka for a doubleheader. Game 1 starts at 1:00 P.M.
