Baseball beats RIT, 8-2

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team beat the RIT Tigers on Wednesday, 8-2.

The Cardinals jumped ahead early, taking advantage of walks, errors, wild pitches, and two balks to score three runs to make it 3-0. They added two more runs in the fifth, as freshman Jackson Frey reached base on an error to score senior James Murphy and extend the lead to 4-0. Frey himself scored later in the inning on a single to left-center by sophomore Jake Crantz, making the score 5-0.

RIT scored twice in the sixth, but the Cardinals put up three in the eighth to put away the game.

Freshman Robert Leach earned the win for 5.2 innings pitched. The Orchard Park native gave up four hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Junior Tanner Frank later struck out three in two innings of hitless relief, the longest of the four relievers for the Cardinals on the day.

Crantz led the team offensively, going two-for-three with two walks while driving in two runs. Murphy had Fisher's lone extra-base-hit of the day, a double, and scored three runs.

The Cardinals return to play on Friday in an important conference game, hosting Russell Sage College at 4:00 P.M.
