PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team are set to host Russell Sage College on Saturday with a chance to not only clinch a spot in the Empire 8 Championship, but also clinch the no. 1 seed. In addition, the Cardinals will be celebrating senior day prior to the start of the competition.
Eyes on No. 1… Again
The Cardinals are currently 4-0 in conference and sit in first place ahead of Alfred University (3-1) and Nazareth University (2-1). Fisher handed both of those teams their only conference losses to date, so with a win on Saturday against the Gators (2-2), the Cardinals will clinch the no. 1 seed and the regular season title. If they achieve this feat, it will be the fourth straight year that Fisher goes into the Conference Championship as the top-seed. They have also gone on to win the title all three years.
Senior Day!
The Men's Lacrosse team will celebrate 11 seniors prior to the start of the game.
Dugan Doeblin,
Griffin Dautrich,
Andrew Corbin,
Logan Grom,
Timmy Salit,
Jordan Leuze,
Joe Urlacher,
Matthew Kemmis,
Jake Slowinski,
Ben Hammond, and Anthony Ametrano will all be thanked for their contributions to the program over the years.
Kemmis The Menace
Speaking of Kemmis, the senior attacker has been the focal part of the Fisher offense. He leads the team in points with 57, thanks to a team leading 39 goals and 18 assists, which is tied for most on the team with Salit. In the Empire 8, Kemmis is second in total points, tied for first in total goals and tied for sixth in total assists.
Scouting Gators
The name also atop the conference stat leaders is sophomore attacker Nate Kettle of Russell Sage. Kettle is tied for first in total goals with 39, second in total assists with 23 and first in total points with 62. Kettle looks to continue to lead the Gator attack against the Fisher defense. As a team, the Gators are no. 4 in conference in goals per game, assists per game and points per game. Defensively, they allow the most goals in the conference with 172, while scoring the fourth most with 144.
What's Next!
Just because it is senior day does not mean it's the final home game. The Cardinals will take on Union College on Wednesday April 24
th at 5 p.m. for the final regular season game at Growney. The final game of the regular season will be on Saturday, April 27
th, when Fisher travels to Utica University for a 1 p.m. game time.
