Men’s Lacrosse Defeat Saxons At Home, 18-11

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team was at home on Wednesday to take on Alfred University in a battle of E8 undefeated teams. The Cardinals took control in the first quarter and fended off the late Saxons attack to win 18-11. Fisher sees their record move to 8-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
 
Timmy Salit got the scoring started for the Cardinals in the opening minute of play. Matthew Kemmis and Matt Slowinski followed with goals of their own before Alfred got on the board to make it 3-1. Salit recorded his second to give Fisher a 4-1 lead after one quarter. In the second frame, the Cardinals outscored the Saxons 5-0. Ethan Kesselring tallied a pair with Kemmis adding his second and Connor Mesh and Brady Mason recording their first of the game. Heading into break, the team led 9-1.
 
There was a total of 12 goals in the third quarter, with Fisher scoring seven of them. Kemmis capped off his hat trick before Keaton Piconi and Brett Seaman got on the board for the first time. As the third continued on, Kemmis scored three more goals, with Colin Blakeslee adding one of his own as well. In the fourth, Kesselring and Mason scored early on before the Saxons ran off five unanswered goals to conclude the game. Fisher walked away with the 18-11 win.
 
Kemmis continues his strong season with six goals and two assists for eight points on 13 shots. Mason and Salit each recorded four points, scoring twice and assisting twice. Ben Hammond played just over 40 minutes, allowing three goals and making 12 saves to earn the win.
 
Up next for Fisher is a home game on Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. as they take on Russell Sage College at Growney Stadium.
