Baseball sweeps away Keuka at FLCC

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Keuka on the campus of Finger Lakes Community College on Monday, winning both ends of a doubleheader.

Game 1: Fisher 12, Keuka 8

Down 7-0 after two innings, the Cardinals stormed back to outscore Keuka 12-1 over the remaining five innings, scoring two runs in the third and five in the fourth before taking the lead for good on a Keuka error in the sixth.

Graduate student first baseman Brian Norsen led the way for Fisher, going 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBI. Sophomore second baseman Jake Crantz went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Senior shortstop Nick Lemire doubled for one of his two hits and also recorded an RBI.

Sophomore Cam Kingsley earned his first collegiate win, striking out six in four innings of relief. Graduate student Hunter Walsh racked up his third save of the season, giving up just one hit in two innings of relief while striking out three.

Game 2: Fisher 18, Keuka 2 (7 innings)

Senior third baseman James Murphy went 3-for-5 with a triple, a walk, two stolen bases, and three runs scored as the Cardinals dominated Keuka in the second game, forcing an early end thanks to the run rule.

The Cardinals jumped ahead in the first inning when Murphy drove in two on his triple before scoring on a passed ball to make it 3-0. While Keuka scratched one of those runs back in the bottom half, but Fisher responded with 13 unanswered runs, including 10 in the sixth inning alone. A two-run shot by sophomore Benjamin Huckans provided an exclamation point in the seventh.

Senior catcher Ethan Perry drove in four runs, while Lemire plated two. Senior Patrick McGuire moved to 2-2 for the season, allowing four hits and an earned run in five innings of work while striking out four.

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, April 17, when they host RIT. First pitch is 4:00 P.M.
