ITHACA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team was on the road on Monday to take on Ithaca College in an early week matchup. The Cardinals were able to take a lead in the top of the tenth, but the Bombers walked it off in the bottom of the frame and Fisher was defeated 4-3.
The Cardinals fell behind by one after the first inning, but in the third,
Jake Crantz singled through the right side to tie the game.
Nick Lemire followed it up with a single of his own that drove in
Jimmy McCardle to take a 2-1 lead. Ithaca evened the score at 2-2 in the sixth and neither team was able to earn an advantage in the final three frames and the match went to extra innings. In the top of the tenth, Fisher took the lead with
James Murphy singling to right field, which allowed Lemire to score. The Bombers did not back down and after tying the game on a bases loaded walk, a single to center field walked it off and the Cardinals fell 4-3.
Lemire finished the day 3-for-4 from the plate with one run and one RBI.
Benjamin Huckans also had a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3.
Tanner Frank drew the start and pitched 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks, while walking five.
Up next for the Cardinals is a home three-game series against Elmira College. The competition starts with a double-header on Saturday, April 6 and first pitch at 12 p.m.
