WINTER HAVEN, FL – The St. John Fisher University baseball team continued their spring break in Florida with a game against Immaculata University. The matchup was a pitching duel for the first seven innings as neither team scored a run until the eighth.
Ethan Fulton drew the start for the Cardinals and pitched 6.0 innings of four hit, scoreless baseball. Fisher had a chance for runs in the second inning when
Mario Cubello and
Benjamin Huckans got into scoring position after a
Matthew Arnold sacrifice bunt, but back-to-back strikeouts kept a zero on the board. The Mighty Macs scored first in the top of the eighth, but Fisher quickly answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run to left field by
Brian Norsen. Neither team scored in the ninth and the game went into extra innings. Immaculata scored in the top of the tenth and Fisher was unable to answer in the bottom and fell 4-1.
Jake Crantz finished the game 3-for-5, and both Norsen and Cubello recorded multi-hit games with two each.
Gabreal Roth impressed out of the bullpen, tossing 3.0 innings of one run ball allowing four hits.
