AUBURNDALE, FL – The St. John Fisher University baseball team were in Florida on Monday for their second baseball game of the Spring Break trip. Despite a couple of late pushes by the Cardinals, the comeback fell short against Mount Union University and the team moves to 2-3 on the year.
 
After falling behind 3-0 through three innings of action, Fisher was able to push runs across in the fourth. The inning started with Jake Crantz singling to right field and moving to second on a passed ball. Brian Norsen singled through the left side, moving Crantz to third and after a Nick Lemire walk to load the bases, Mario Cubello hit into a fielder's choice that scored the first game of the day for the team. The next batter, Benjamin Huckans doubled down the left field line to score Norsen and cut the deficit to just one run.
 
After Mount Union added another pair of runs, the Cardinals bats woke up again in the fifth. Lemire tallied an infield single that scored Jake Meeker and Cubello walked with the bases loaded to bring in Crantz, making the score 5-4 in the fifth. From their, both teams made pitching changes that put zeros on the scoreboard.
 
For Fisher, Tanner Frank drew the start and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing nine hits five runs, three earned and striking out five. Hunter Walsh came in and pitched the final 4.0 innings and allowed three hits and no runs while striking out two batters.
 
Fisher is back in action on Tuesday, March 5 as the Cardinals will take on Benedictine University and Husson University. First pitches are set for 4p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively.
