PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's volleyball team played their final regular season home game on Friday, hosting no. 15 ranked MIT. The Cardinals honored their three seniors prior to the game, thanking them for their contribution to the program.
The Cardinals fell behind in the first set, but mistakes by the Engineers kept the team in it until it was 13-13. MIT claimed a three-point lead and despite the trading of points, Fisher dropped the first set, 25-22. The second-set saw a bounce back performance, despite a 12-9 deficit, kills by
Casey Jackson pushed the team back in front by one and an ace by
Sonepith Keoviengsamay push the Cardinals ahead 22-17. They held on to win the set 25-22 and even the match at 1-1.
Fisher was unable to get into a rhythm in third set, falling behind 10-3 and eventually falling 25-16. In the fourth frame, the Cardinals showed their ability to fight back, with kills by
Gabe La Robardiere, Jackson and
Griffin Stella either tying the score or taking the lead. Down the stretch, it was all even at 22-22, but it was MIT that recorded the final three points and Fisher fell by a final score of 3-1.
The Cardinals will hit the road on Friday, April 5 to travel to New York University for a crucial UVC matchup. The contest is slated for 7 p.m.
