LA CROSSE, WI – Graduate student Alex Samson placed seventh in the 141 lb. weight class at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships this weekend in Wisconsin.
After going 2-1 on Friday to secure All-American honors, Samson had a chance to potentially reach as high as third place but could finish no lower than eighth.
Samson opened the day in defeat, falling to Wartburg's Kyler Romero by major decision. However, Samson then recovered in the seventh-place match, defeating Wisconsin-Whitewater's Ethan Pogorzelski in a 4-2 decision.
Samson's finish at the championships caps a historic season for the Victor native where he won the Mideast Regional title and became the first Cardinal to compete at the national championships since the wrestling program was re-established in 2022. By earning All-American status with a top-eight finish, he became Fisher's first in wrestling since the early 1980s.
